A Brief History of Jayco®

For many years now, one of the leading recreational vehicle manufacturers in the United States has been Jayco®. This Indiana-based company is behind some of the best RVs in the industry, including travel trailers and fifth wheels. Read on to learn a bit more about the history behind Jayco®.

Company Background

Jayco® was founded by Lloyd Jay Bontrager in the 1960s in the town of Middlebury, Indiana. Drawing inspiration from his own middle name, Bontrager chose a blue jay for the company’s logo and used it in the company’s name. Because he was raised in the Amish faith, Bontrager opted to select his employees from the hard-working Amish and Mennonite communities near his factory to construct his campers.

Jayco was taken over by Bontrager’s wife and new company president Al Yoder, Jr., in 1985, following Bontrager’s death in a plane crash. To this day, Jayco continues to be a key player in the RV industry.
